Application
Xenical (orlistat) is a lipase inhibitor for obesity management that acts by inhibiting the absorption of dietary fats. Indicated for obese patients with an initial body mass index (BMI) >30. If you fall into the "Obese" category this may be the help you have been looking for.

Interaction
Reduction in cyclosporine plasma levels when Xenical was coadministered with cyclosporine. Reduction in beta-carotene and vitamin E, vitamin K supplement absorption.

Side Effects
Oily Spotting, Flatus with Discharge, Fecal Urgency, Fatty/Oily Stool, Oily Evacuation, Increased Defecation, Fecal Incontinence, Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms were the most commonly observed, as well pruritus, rash, urticaria, angioedema, and anaphylaxis in the hypersensitive. This should eliminate these mild side effects. Talk to your Pharmacist if symptoms persist.

Precautions
Give your doctor your complete medical history especially if you are being treated for depression or high blood pressure. Limit alcohol and caffeine use. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding or think you are pregnant. For more information consult your Pharmacist.
Vitamin supplement should be taken at least 2 hours before or after the administration, such as at bedtime. Because Xenical has been shown to reduce the absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins and beta-carotene, patients should be counseled to take a multivitamin containing fat-soluble vitamins to ensure adequate nutrition. Tell your Doctor before taking this product if your are taking any type of medication.

Additional Information
Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children. It is illegal to give this medication to others. To work well, incorporate a diet and exercise program. The recommended dose of Xenical is one 120-mg capsule three times a day with each main meal containing fat (during or up to 1 hour after the meal).
